We have a "newsletter". If you sign up for the newsletter you'll get periodic updates from the farm. Topics range from "upcoming events" to "times when Febreze is a suitable alternative to showering". It's little slices of life from the farm, often funny because laughter is a stress-relieving necessity. It's not a hard-sell kinda newsletter because we're really terrible at hard-selling anything.

Does “Ride More” Count as a Mid Winter Project?
Awhile back I posted about this ambitious list I had of “mid winter projects” — all the stuff I’d do during our down time in the winter. Pshaw. Instead I joined the local drill team because the only mid-winter … Continue reading

Cold
Cold. The temps dropped from daily averages of 60 to 25. It’s the kind of cold snap that keeps you up at night fretting about the animals. I really only fret about two things at night: Stock tank heaters … Continue reading

Our Horses Don’t “Escape” So Good
The “herdlet” of mares got out this morning around 3. Jeff and I went out to investigate. For the most part my experience with horses escaping has been that they get loose, lose their minds over their new-found freedom, and … Continue reading

Remembering the Holidays with Family (a non-violent story)
I’m listening to Christmas music only because I have to. I’m putting together “the perfect holiday music playlist” for wagon-ride season. Johnny Cash, Bing Crosby, Patsy Cline — all the old country and crooner Christmas music I loathed as a … Continue reading

The MOWP List
We have a MOWP list. MOWPs are “Middle of Winter Projects”. It’s all the stuff that we want to work on but don’t have time any other time of year. It’s a double-edged sword though. The more we grow … Continue reading

Trail Ride Season Ends, Wagon Season Begins
The trail riding season is over. We enjoyed a season of growth – more riders means more friends for us! The horses also had a great year of being doted on by visitors. I’m not sure who enjoys trail riding … Continue reading

Dreams of a Horse-Filled Life
I can tell you a million different ways that, as a girl, I dreamt of living a horse-filled life. I was going to be a trick rider, a cowgirl, a team roper, a horse trainer, a horse whisperer, a cookie (chuck … Continue reading

Thank You, Fall!
As If Riding Every Day Weren’t Enough… In a few short weeks I’ll be heading to Montana and spending 8 hours a day driving horses! Every romantic image of driving horses comes to mind — using them to feed the … Continue reading

Cowboyin’
My husband Jeff is not a big horse-riding person. He always says, “If I can ride one where my feet touch the ground, that’s just right.” This is a good thing, because there is a LOT of stuff to … Continue reading
